Hero Honda Karizma

http://philip9876.files.wordpress.com/2007/10/karizma.jpeg

Hero Honda Karizma is a top-end bike from the Hero Honda stable and targets the niche section of customers that prefer performance to economy.

Karizma comes with a 223cc single cylinder, air-cooled, four stroke engine that packs a maximum power of 17bhp at 7000rpm. Apart from breaking the 200cc barrier, the bike breaks fresh grounds in the acceleration front. Karizma conquers the four-second barrier for zero to sixty kph, doing it 3.8 seconds.

On the styling front, Karizma draws inspiration from Honda's cult VFR 800, the legendary and largest selling superbike from the Japanese giant. Striking similarities exist in the alloy die-cast wheels, the tailpiece, the front indicators, the fairing, the silencer unit, seat, panel shapes and instrument binnacle.

2003 Hero Honda Karizma

The Karizma comes with factory-fitted mag wheels and the long wheelbase at 1355mm provides stability to the bike. The motorcycle has a top speed of 125kph and performs commendably at speeds around 100kph. The Karizma is equipped with a massive 15-litre fuel tank (FT) with a 2-litre reserve.

The Karizma ensures excellent braking with the 276mm disc up front (largest so far) and the 130mm rear drum brakes. The mag wheels give a very un-cluttered look to the rear wheel.

Bajaj Platina

Bajaj Platina, a new 100cc bike from Bajaj Auto to take on TVS Star City has been launched. The cheaper version will come for Rs 34,500, while the higher version of Bajaj Platina will cost
Rs 36000. Both are ex-showroom prices, Delhi. Bajaj hopes to sell about 75,000-80,000 units of Platinas a month.

http://analienearthling.files.wordpress.com/2008/05/bajaj_platina.jpg

Engine specifications and performance indicators of the Bajaj Platina are not available so far.

Bajaj already has entry-level bikes with the Bajaj CT-100 and Bajaj Discover 112. The entry-level segment is being strengthened by the arrival of the Bajaj Platina.

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXScF1ZpUI5rFsMAfsyTbxRALl0wmruIGWaT_gc8mGaEYuxECBSeb8KFjrvkW3Z8e0gX42AGaDkSBMRhPxGVSZ9L_lO2YrbCfJbQJPjT8gxuuplz9Dtlh9L9ZRuGMngBoNbqNUYMpuvw2t/s320/Bajaj_Platina_125.jpg

Said Bajaj Auto Vice President Marketing Two-Wheelers S Shridhar: "The launch of Bajaj Platina will redefine current standards and will further strenghten Bajaj Auto's presence in the large 100-110 cc segment." The company will use it new Pantnagar plant to build the Platina.

Will Bajaj Platina cannibalise Bajaj CT100? The company is expecting that to some extent, but maintains that it can make better margins out of the Platina.

TVS Flame CCVTi 125

http://www.bikes4sale.in/photos/bikes4sale.in%20_%20Flame%20(1).jpg

TVS launched its Flame CCVTi to compete in the 125cc segment.
Flame’s design is unique, per se. But does it look good? It depends on your perception. So far people have told me that it is different but not outstanding.

With looks and specs like these, the TVS Flame will probably be positioned as a premium 125 cc offering. The soon to be launched 125 cc Exceed from Bajaj will cater to the entry level 125 cc segment. But after looking at the pics of the Flame, I doubt that anyone is going to look at any other 125 cc bike.

Some people like it and some do not admire it, but looks are just a minor aspect of biking in non-youth, non-sporty audience. People are more concerned about mileage for 100cc and 125cc bikes. The ’shoulders’ in the tank looks like its been copied from the Hunk. I do not want to talk too much about the looks because picture speaks a 1000 words .

Turn Indicators of the 125 cc TVS Flame

Tank mounted turn indicators of the 125 cc TVS Flame

When I took the bike for a test ride, I doubted whether it is a 125cc one. The pickup is not as good as its competitor, the Hero Honda Glamour.

Although TVS claims to have incorporated a 3-valve technology instead of the regular 2 valve one, there does not seem to be a significant difference. I wish that companies will stop featuring, ‘hey this bike has this, it has that, this is better’ and instead focus on the real performance of the bike. As the famous saying goes, action speaks louder than words.

Digital Speedometers of the 125 CC TVS Flame

Digital Speedometers of the 125 cc TVS Flame

TVS has tried something new and innovative in the dashboard called the IMI - Instant Mileage Indicator. The digital console has a real time fuel efficiency indicator and lets you know the approximate mileage your bike is giving and you can adjust your riding to give the maximum mileage. Such features were available only in very high end cars till now.

Headlamp of the 125 cc TVS Flame

The Headlamp of the 125 cc TVS Flame

Would I buy this bike? No, because in my research I have found that even though some models may be good, the service is not of good quality. This does not mean that it is the same everywhere, but I have noticed that there is not much pressure from the head office of TVS to maintain quality standards in the service centers.

[4.jpg]

Exhaust of the 125 cc TVS Flame

The mileage of the bike in our test drive was 60 kmpl in normal city riding and upto 70 kmpl in the highways. If you want a 125cc bike, go for Glamour instead of Flame. (Hey! I am not the marketing manager of Hero Honda, but I really feel that Hero Honda bikes are much better than the other bikes in the market in terms of quality).
